The material's high elongation and flexibility means that supporting steel structures can be designed for stress rather than deflection. This enables very large opening vents to be incorporated, without risk of the cladding cracking or breaking.

Frequently, it becomes cost effective to design a whole roof to hydraulically open rather than incorporating opening vents around the perimeter.

Completely new design methods can be used in the roofing of transparent space, using processes more commonly encountered in the automotive or ship building industries.
