ETFE Climatic Envelopes The Vector Foiltec Texlon® cladding system offers designers unparalleled opportunities in the development of ETFE climatic envelopes. Texlon® consists of pneumatic cushions that are restrained in aluminium extrusions and supported by a lightweight structure. The cushions are inflated with low-pressure air to provide insulation and help resist wind loads. The cushions are manufactured from between two and five layers of the modified copolymer Ethylene Tetra Fluoro Ethylene or ETFE for short. The unique material, originally developed for the space industry does not degrade under Ultra-Violet light or atmospheric pollution. Texlon®, an extremely long lasting material, can be used as part of the permanent building envelope. As the surface is very smooth with anti-adhesive properties Texlon® ETFE self cleanses under the action of rain water. Texlon® combines exceptional light transmission with high insulation. Each layer of ETFE climatic envelopes can incorporate a different type of solar shading, enabling the designer to optimise the aesthetic and environmental performance of ETFE climatic envelopes. We can even create cladding systems that react to the sun and change their transmission and insulation throughout the day. Through sophisticated load analysis and patterning we can engineer Texlon® to virtually any size or shape that you desire. This allows designers to make full use of the product’s innate flexibility creating structures of unusual lightness and elegance. These properties coupled with Texlon’s® very low levels of embodied energy and outstanding environmental characteristics, result in an ecologically benign ETFE climatic envelope.
