Size: 483 m²
Date: 2010

Notes:

Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintec), based in the rural city of Hamilton, New Zealand. Wintec comprises several campus blocks of which Block F is located on the City campus. The inclusion of a boulevard to create easier access to streets located in the corner of Hamilton was the reason behind the original Block F being demolished.

The Wintec Block F atrium comprises of 8 rectangular ETFE (Ethylene TetraFluoroEthylene) cushions of varying widths which allows for a light, open feel. As the area is used for multiple purposes the cushions are printed with a high density fritte pattern to provide sufficient shading while still allowing natural light to filter through.

The ETFE cushion installation used Vector Foiltec’s unique trafficable netting system which enabled other trades to work below without significant exclusion zones.
