Defying Conventional Alpine Construction with Texlon® ETFE

Our Texlon® ETFE is defying conventional Alpine construction with the application of a durable single-skin membrane to the Interchange Station Grasjoch Bahn in Austria. In a region renowned for its heavy snow loads (up to 380 kg), wind-peak speeds of 200 km/h, and extensive avalanche safety testing, we are redefining single-skin technology.

Durable Single-skin Technology Against All Weather Conditions

The Grasjoch Bahn is comprised of 2,435 m² of transparent Texlon® ETFE foil. The membrane underwent extensive testing to determine the feasibility of single-skin technology in such a challenging environment. Moreover, achieving permanent protection against all weather conditions is something we strive to provide. Meanwhile, allowing spectacular views of the surrounding Vorarlberg slopes. The project’s success is a culmination of innovative design, unique Texlon® ETFE properties, and our 30 years of ‘solution-finding’ expertise.

A New Approach to Ecological and Environmental Construction

The interchange station forms the longest cable car system in Europe at an estimated 4,343 m. Designed by Johann Obermoser, the L-shaped, flat roof design of the station blends into the surrounding landscape. Moreover, the design offers a new approach to ecological and environmental construction at an altitude of up to 2,430 m.
