The museum
counterpart of the BBC's Natural History Unit, this innovative structure
by renowned Architects Michael Hopkins Partnership, houses an IMAX
cinema, an electronic zoo and a tented tropical greenhouse.
The Texlon structure allows maximum light transmission and thermal efficiency, enabling the tropical plants to thrive.
The Texlon is supported by a uniaxial cable net structure. The
flexibility of the Texlon system allows the deflections inherent in a
structure of this type, without the fear of damage to the cladding
system or the chance of water ingress.
The internal blind
system is supported from an independent cable net system in order to
isolate it from the movement of the main structure.
