Light Filled Multi-Use Space

The Palm Court lobby, at the Boca Raton Resort and Club, was transformed from a conventional thoroughfare to a light filled, multi use space. The old roof was replaced by a transparent Texlon® ETFE canopy floating above a grid of steel columns, which branch up in the form of palm trees. The result, an area that provides guests with an outdoor atmosphere, with the comforts of an indoor climate.

Vector Foiltec engineered and fabricated both the complex steel structure and the Texlon® ETFE transparent roof. Vector Foiltec developed a system that would meet the organic design concept and the rigorous hurricane code requirements.

Renovation with ETFE

Luxury Resorts commissioned the Office of Thierry Despont and Garcia Stromberg to develop concepts for the refurbishment. This renovation of the historic Addison Mizner designed resort stripped revealed the original beauty of the elaborate wood and stone detailing throughout the hotels public spaces. Additionally, modern elements were intertwined with the past to create dynamic experiences within the vertical steel structure of Palm Court, creating a light filled main arrival area.

ETFE foils are traditionally printed with silver pigments because silver reflects the solar radiation better than other colors. The foils are available in three shades of silver – light, medium and dark. Gold and white lacquers tend to be used for aesthetic purposes, rather than for shading or thermal performance. Modified graphic patterns can be designed upon request.
