The Village – Al Jawhara Mall in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is a retail development that showcases innovative architectural design. The mall features 222 Texlon^® ETFE cushions, each with three layers. In total, it covers an area of over 12,500 m². The mall stands as the first shopping mall covered with ETFE material in Saudi-Arabia (on the state of winning this project).

The Village – Al Jawhara Mall is part of a larger development that includes over 132 stores, a five-star hotel, and various entertainment options. The project is strategically located near King Abdullah Sports City and is set to become one of Jeddah’s premier shopping destinations.

Diagrid and Barrel Vault-Shaped Roofs

There are different ways of understanding diagrid design. It happens at a variety of different scales, from canopies to roofs or facades, all across the world.

For retail, it’s the best option in terms of light, lightweight, acoustic benefit, and maintenance. A diagrid layout is also done more effectively and practically with ETFE. Further, the mall has areas with an efficient barrel vault-shaped roof. A custom print on the inside of the upper ETFE layer adds a unique aesthetic touch.
