Kings Mill Hospital – Texlon® ETFE Skylights
Multiple Texlon® ETFE skylights are included in the £320 million redevelopment project to the existing Kings Mill acute facility has enabled the creation of a single hospital comprising 28 new wards. The hospital includes a new state-of-the-art Diagnostic and Treatment Centre, a new Emergency Care Centre, a new dedicated Women’s and Children’s Centre and an extensive Education and Training Centre. The new hospital facility covers a total area of 140,000 m² and provides 840 patient beds.
Exceptional Light Transmission Capabilities
The striking, modern architecture by SHCA enhances a positive experience for patients, staff and visitors through the incorporation of exceptional natural light, modern and colorful furnishings and ease of access to all wards. In addition to Texlon® ETFE’s exceptional light transmission capabilities, the elegantly designed roofs provide intelligent climatic control, acoustic transparency, and outstanding insulation. Over 3,700 m² or 36 Texlon® ETFE inflated panels of white and clear foil cushions.
A safe, low maintenance and eco-efficient alternative to glass, Texlon® ETFE has greatly contributed to Kings Mill Hospital’s sustainability ratings. Already having achieved a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating, the hospital boasts numerous integrated design features which will help to achieve the hospital’s program of reducing their carbon footprint by 400 tons a year.
