Reconstruction of The Mines Shopping Mall
The MINES Shopping Mall (previously known as Mines Shopping Fair) was purchased by CapitaMalls Asia in 2010. Formerly, the area around the mall was the world’s largest open cast tin mine. Since 1998, a huge redevelopment has taken place, which included an entertainment area with various attractions. In 2011, we were involved in the reconstruction where we completed the Texlon® ETFE skylight. Previously, a small skylight brought a bit of light into the mall. Whereas now, Vector Foiltec is responsible for the 500 m² of lightweight Texlon® ETFE system, that brings in more light for the shoppers.
Reconstruction with ETFE Brings Light into the Mall
The main goal of the reconstruction of The Mines Shopping Mall was to bring more natural light into the mall. Resulting in visitors feeling good and spending more time in the mall. This increases the commercial success of the shopping environment. Of course, an ETFE skylight is a huge benefit for both operators and visitors. Further, a partial print pattern on one ETFE foil layer provides shading for optimized climate control, while still retaining transparency.
