Shopping Center with ETFE Roof
Botany Town Center, in suburban Auckland, is one of New Zealand’s largest regional shopping destinations. We partnered with Ignite Architects, Structural Designers Create Ltd, and Head Contractors Naylor Love. This team created an iconic upgrade for one of the key zones in the center (Link to Botany Town Centre website).

Specific Design Inspiration
The roof is shaped like an eel net. It’s meant to be an homage to the local fishermen who caught eels in the nearby Pakuranga Creek river until about 2018 when eel fishing was banned in the area.
Striking parabolic glulam arches support the canopy and provide a rhythmic architectural statement. The arches were manufactured by TimberLab and are designed to complement the organic roof form, contributing to the overall aesthetic and structural integrity of the space.
Stunning Effects with Texlon® ETFE Cladding
Highly complex geometry, tight schedules, and difficult installation were all combined into one of the toughest projects we have ever undertaken. However, the results speak for themselves. The 2-layer Texlon® ETFE cushions wrap across the base steelwork frame, which gives a visually stunning effect. This changes hour by hour. Nighttime or daytime – a simply beautiful structure made possible by state-of-the-art design and execution.
