Texlon® ETFE, Atriums and Acoustic Comfort
The KL Gateway is a vast and prominent development located at the entrance of Kuala Lumpur, featuring a large ETFE atrium. The atrium provides a light-flooded enjoyable environment with acoustic comfort for clients and employees below. At its center sits the Central Piazza, where an iconic ring ties landscaped greens, a retail mall, leisure park, and outdoor tropical gardens together.
The development is covered by a Texlon® ETFE atrium roof by Vector Foiltec. Further, incorporating a Texlon® ETFE solution for the skylight creates an inspiring and memorable environment for both visitors and employees. ETFE also provides acoustic comfort, which is important for interactive community spaces.
Unique Texlon® ETFE Print Pattern
Standing under the Texlon® ETFE atrium feels as though you are standing under a huge flower. The print pattern for the foil canopy is one of a kind. The unique pattern mimics the petal shape of a hibiscus flower – the national flower of Malaysia. Moreover, our joint efforts with the developer (Suez Domain) and architects (10 Design Architects Hong Kong & CHY Architects Sdn Bhd.) align perfectly with the owner’s vision.
Our scope of work
Vector Foiltec provided a turn-key project. First, we designed the steelwork, which is also unique as it spans 42 meters without using any trusses. Furthermore, the lightweight solution pushed design and engineering boundaries. Therefore, resulting in having only a single beam solution for such a long span. The Texlon® ETFE system covers 1,600 m2 with 31 individual two-layer ETFE cushions.
