A Unique ETFE Facade for Maximum Light Transmission
In Singapore, a new McDonald’s restaurant with a unique Texlon® ETFE facade design opened its doors in April 2023. Located in Choa Chu Kang Park, in northwest Singapore, the outlet is surrounded by greenery and nature. The transparent ETFE cushions on the facade contribute to a light-flooded interior space.
A Highly Transparent ETFE Facade Connects Inside to Outside
This branch connects the classic McDonald’s design with modern and sleek elements. In fact, the design intent was to connect the interior of the restaurant with the park surroundings. The architect, Archideas Design, proposed to open the walls with continuous transparent ETFE cushions. As a result, abundant daylight can enter the building. The high transparency of our Texlon® ETFE system allows for all wavelengths of natural light to pass through. This creates a beautiful outdoor feeling in the restaurant. On top of that, the high light transmission of the foil benefits the indoor greenery walls.
Flexible Design that Turns Heads – and Corners
There’s nothing standard about the facade design at the McDonald’s at Choa Chu Kang Park. Wrapped around the building are three rows of 2-layer Texlon® ETFE cushions. They feature a unique 90-degree turn at one corner, as well as two very narrow radius turns. Our ETFE system is very flexible and has a high tensile strength. These characteristics allow for endless design possibilities.
