ETFE Canopy for the Pavilion Hotel Kuala Lumpur
The Royal Pavilion Hotel was constructed on top of the existing and massively successful Pavilions KL Mall. It is covered by an ETFE roof with a span of 36 meters. It provides shelter and critical thermal protection to the hotel guests and visitors. If you are training at their Sky Gym you get a direct view on the ETFE Canopy.
Tower Cranes for Installation
One of the challenges for our design and constructions teams included working 18 stories above the busiest roads in central Kuala Lumpur. Additionally, we could only use the tower cranes for installation with no laydown or fabrication space at ground level.
Impossible? Great!
Our 36 meter trusses where divided into three 1.8MT sections. This was done so the tower cranes could hoist at tip, to roof level, so they could be welded together. Next, they were lifted into final location. Also, to ensure safety we designed and supplied safety nets and life lines. These were secured between the top of the trusses creating a temporary work platform. As a result, these platforms fully supported our craftsman and materials safely.
The ETFE cushions are 4.2 m wide and 18 m long. They are made up of two layers of Texlon® ETFE, with printed ETFE on the top layer and transparent ETFE on the bottom layer. Our unique prints provide high thermal performance, with high light transmission and anti-glare properties for the hotel.
