Home for Universities and Logistic Companies

A nice place to spend time: The House of Logistics and Mobility (HOLM) is an interdisciplinary and application-orientated centre. About 500 people from different Universities and logistic companies work on resource-efficient mobility solutions here. HOLM was created by architect Albert Speer & Partner with the Fraunhofer institute, and was built according to sustainability requirements.

Sustainability

During the planning phase, the DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council) was involved in the building process. The outcome: HOLM receives the pre-certification DGNB Silver. The atrium’s roof has a huge impact on this certificate. Vector Foiltec’s Texlon® ETFE system covers the atrium with 600 m² of translucent foil cushions. Furthermore, the lightweight, flexible, and durable Texlon® system, fulfills the thermal requirements of Passive House standards. A Passive House needs less energy to achieve comfortable air temperatures, which is a requirement for new buildings in Frankfurt. The Texlon® system is composed of different layers of foils, forming cushions. The air cavity between the two layers of ETFE helps reduce the thermal transmittance. Sustainability is another aspect which lets people feel comfortable at HOLM.

Communication under the Atrium

HOLM was built for communication. The Texlon® ETFE system underlines this approach because it creates a naturally illuminated meeting place in the atrium. The acoustic comfort is another advantage of the Texlon® ETFE system, which makes the place perfect for events and meetings during lunch time.
