A Sustainable Project with Texlon® ETFE System
Neues Gymnasium Bochum, Germany, is a bilingual German-English high school founded in 2010. Designed by Hascher Jehle Architektur, the school is built in the shape of a figure-eight. In 2012, Vector Foiltec was contracted to install a sustainable Texlon® ETFE roof over one of the school’s atriums.
The use of Texlon® ETFE creates a naturally illuminated enviornment, which fits into the architectural design concept of the whole building. The school has two atriums, one of which is covered with 1,010 m2 of Texlon® ETFE cladding system. The ETFE atrium spans the entire courtyard, therefore students and teachers are protected from the environment while simultaneously enjoying natural light. Furthermore, the acoustic comfort during breaks and events, is another advantage the transparent cladding system provides.
The school has all of the components to achieve the Green Building Certification, demonstrating the sustainability of this project. Therefore, Texlon® ETFE sets new standards for education architecture.
