Devonshire Square, the original spice warehouses of the historic East India Trading Company, comprises of twelve self-contained buildings on a five acre estate. The listed 18th century buildings were initially refurbished in the late 1970’s and succesfsfully retained many of the original features of the individual buildings.
The most recent redevelopment of Devonshire Square by Fletcher Priest Architects incorporates a Texlon® ETFE covered courtyard – a new active public space with a range of retail and restaurant facilities. The elegant courtyard, situated to the west of the estate, enables the space to be utilised all year round. This transparent Texlon® ETFE canopy oversails the building paraphet to create a naturally ventilated space that is supported by a delicate light weight steel structure.
The courtyard roof affords occupants and guests improved comfort while the elegant design modernises the space and maintains the integrity of the historic surroundings.
