First LEED certified building with ETFE Roof and Skylights in Dominican Republic
The Agora Mall in Santo Domingo is a light-filled shopping center with chain retailers and boutiques, plus a cinema and supermarket. It was the first building in Dominican Republic to be certified LEED silver. This certification program aimed at strengthening and promoting the high performance of sustainable buildings. The mall includes a huge Texlon® ETFE dome roof and three other smaller ETFE skylights, totaling almost 2,200 m². Our Texlon® ETFE helped the mall to receive LEED credits.
Natural Light Shines Through Roof and Skylights
The Texlon® ETFE system helps control the amount of light allowed into the shopping area, keeping the temperature comfortable, while still enjoying natural daylight. As a result, less artificial light is used. At the same time, the natural light makes people more productive and creates a great shopping experience for visitors and and those that work there. The outer ETFE layer of the roof and skylights is printed with a silver dot matrix to control solar transmission. In addition, ETFE is also a material that can withstand hurricane force wind loads. The Texlon® ETFE system perfectly fits into the local weather conditions.
Illumination of ETFE
Further, the ETFE roof is illuminated and gives Agora Mall an additional distinctive design. The facade’s design and illumination is pursued to the roof inside.
