Big ETFE Cushions for a Big Player
In 2022 the new headquarters and campus of the German Football Association (German: Deutscher Fußball-Bund, DFB) opened its doors. The modern building combines sport and administration under one roof. Or better said, under two transparent Texlon® ETFE roofs, featuring 9 big cushions.
The German Football Family Has a New Home
The new home of the DFB was designed with one motto in mind: “The sport shapes the house”. The headquarters not only houses the management, but also include the DFB Academy. The new campus offers multiple football fields and offices, with room for 700 employees. Further, there are 40 seminar and conference rooms, as well as space for 100 doctors and physiotherapists, and 33 rooms for athletes.
The Grass Definitely Looks Greener under ETFE
With an indoor turf pitch and a multipurpose hall, the sport truly shapes the house. Both are covered with two highly transparent Texlon® ETFE roofs. Transparency was a key factor for the client when choosing a cladding material for these halls. In fact, ETFE lets through UV light, hence benefitting the grass of the indoor turf pitch. Additionally, the roof protects the field from harsh weather influences, like heavy rain, and provides a pleasant atmosphere.
To create a perfectly controlled environment inside a building, light transmission, climate control, and heat gain are things to take into consideration. The ETFE cushions for the DFB Campus are made from three layers of foil and are printed with silver colored pigments on the upper side. On one hand, the layers ensure proper insulation. On the other hand, the print reflects solar radiation, resulting in smaller heat gain within the building.

To avoid any water ponding scenarios, our team of experts assisted with the design and engineering of the roof. The optimization of the steel structure led to a functional roof, that fits perfectly into the design of the building.
