Musselburgh Primary Care Centre

The new Musselburgh Primary Care Centre provides state of the art healthcare. A Texlon® ETFE cladding system covers the central atrium of the facility. This system ensures that natural daylight floods down into the space below. The Texlon® ETFE foils were printed with speciality ink. This allows high levels of light transmission into the building, while simultaneously reducing solar gain. A perfect combination ensuring optimal ambient temperatures for the building occupants. Resulting in occupants that feel as if they are outside all year round.

Lightweight Atrium Structure

The lightweight supporting structure of the atrium roof consists of aluminum frames connected to a steel substructure. There are 6 three-layer foil cushions clamped into these aluminum frames. The top layer includes a specialized silver print. Therefore, it allows high levels of light transmission into the building, while simultaneously reducing solar gain. Above all, this results in optimal ambient temperatures for the building occupants.

High Quality of Comfort in an Atrium

The multi layer structure of the cushion system offers architects many options. For example, there are a variety of shaping and shading properties to choose from. Additionally, many clients need to consider the transparency and visual appearance of the building envelope. Therefore, we work as a team to make it possible to create an atmospheric atrium with manageable measures. With its light and elegant appearance, the Texlon® ETFE roof ensures a high quality of stay and user comfort. Moreover, it does all of this while being visually stimulating. Lastly, it also improves the energy balance of the building.
